College Admissions Resume

A college admissions resume is just what its name suggests -- a document that is part of the college admission process. It is similar to the type of resume you would use in the workforce with a few basic differences. First of all, most students don't have much work experience. Of course you should include any jobs you've held, but this will not be the main focus of this resume. Your education, and any extracurricular activities you participate in, should be the focus when writing a resume for the college application process.

The first thing you need to do when writing a resume is create your heading. A heading will contain your name, address, telephone number and email address. It goes at the top of the page and should be done in a larger font than the rest of your resume. Below the heading you will want to list your education. Include your GPA and the name and location of your high school. You will also want to include the years attended and any specific areas of study. If you know your position in your graduating class, include that as well if you feel it will help your chances.

Next comes the activities section. This section should list all your extracurricular activities that you have participated in. Examples of this would include sports teams and academic clubs. Under the activities section you will list any special projects you've done. This may expand on the above section in some way. For example if one of the entries on the activities list is science fair, you may include a detailed entry about the project you did under the special projects category. The final section of your resume will be any awards you've won during your high school career.

Writing a college admissions resume can be easy if you divide it up into sections. Take things one section at a time and write a first draft. Your first draft can be edited and refined until it is perfect. Using a computer word processing program such as Word or WordPerfect is essential for properly formatting your resume. There are even resume templates on some programs that are perfect for this purpose. You simply erase the sample material that is there and insert your own material while retaining the pre-designed format.
